Biography
Dr. Alessandra Cassano-Bailey is a highly accomplished interventional radiologist with over 13 years of experience performing complex, image-guided, minimally invasive procedures. She joins MIPS bringing specialized expertise in interventional oncology, venous reconstruction, trauma embolization, women’s health interventions, and pediatric/neonatal procedures. She was recently honored as an Associate Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology (FSIR).
Dr. Cassano-Bailey earned her medical degree from the University of Manitoba, completed two years of general surgery training, diagnostic radiology residency and an interventional radiology fellowship (University of Manitoba/McGill University). She is board certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Diagnostic Radiology with subspecialty certification in Interventional Radiology.
As Assistant Professor of Radiology and Interventional Radiology Fellowship Director at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Cassano-Bailey has trained the next generation of interventional radiologists while maintaining a high-volume clinical practice at Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg, Manitoba’s only Level 1 trauma center and primary referral site for hepatobiliary, thoracic and pediatric care. In 2013 she introduced Manitoba’s first transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) program, helping to establish and expand the province’s interventional oncology service and improve outcomes for patients with liver cancer. She is widely recognized for her advanced skills in venous interventions, pelvic venous disease, trauma embolization, and life-saving procedures in neonates and young children.
Nationally, Dr. Cassano-Bailey served as the 13th President of the Canadian Association for Interventional Radiology (CAIR) from 2023 to 2025 and currently serves on the CAIR Board of Directors and CAIR Foundation Board. She has been an invited faculty member and speaker at major international meetings, most recently participating in the “Tales of IR Leadership” moderated panel at the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting in Toronto. She is a senior author in the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR) and has contributed as a panel expert to national surveys on uterine fibroid embolization.
Dr. Cassano-Bailey is known for her technical precision, genuine compassion for her patients and collaborative approach to the most challenging cases. She takes the time to listen intently and communicates with warmth and empathy, especially during difficult moments. Her addition strengthens MIPS’s ability to provide cutting-edge, minimally invasive care for patients with pelvic venous disease, oncology and trauma across the region.
Personal
Dr. Cassano-Bailey enjoys spending time with her family and staying active through sports and outdoor adventures. A former point guard for the University of Manitoba basketball team, she also loves gardening, cooking authentic Italian meals and caring for her saltwater reef aquarium and many pets.
